Open positions - Board of Directors

Yellow Arrow is seeking to expand its Board of Directors. These roles are volunteer positions that carry a responsibility to contribute to the organization’s success. Board Members are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Passionate about Yellow Arrow’s mission 

  • Supportive of a diverse, transparent, inclusive culture

  • Willing to dedicate time to supporting Yellow Arrow’s growth and sustainability, including:

    • Attending regular board meetings, including reading all prep materials and participating actively in discussions

    • Understanding that YAP’s board is a working board and the majority of staff roles are on a volunteer basis; board participation is very hands-on and essential to our success

    • Volunteering their time to board-related tasks as needed

    • Contributing to Yellow Arrow’s financial standing, either by making an annual personal donation or a commitment to raise an equivalent amount through soliciting external donations

  • Spending time learning and understanding the organization’s mission, culture, policies, and programs

  • Advocating for the organization 

  • Informing others about the organization and sharing news and events on social media 

  • Attending YAP events whenever possible

  • Taking on special assignments as needed

  • Providing expertise and guidance to staff members in corresponding functional areas

At this time, we are specifically interested in potential board members with experience in one of the following areas:

  • Director of Publications - Must have experience in the publishing industry or related field. This individual will serve as a support/back-up to our Editor-in-Chief, working on our literary journal, chapbooks, and other publications processes. Will provide mentorship and oversight to editorial staff and guide the direction of our publications. 

  • Director of Marketing - Must have experience in marketing and social media content design and strategy. This individual will oversee our approach to marketing and social media for general promotion, publications, workshops, and other events.

  • Board Secretary - Coordinates board meeting schedule, takes detailed meeting minutes at meetings, supports the organization with communications.

  • Director of Grants - Provides oversight for grants application process, including supporting with identifying applicable grant opportunities, and drafting or reviewing application responses.

  • We are also accepting general applications for individuals interested in joining our Board as a contributing member.

Open positions - staff

Yellow Arrow is seeking to expand its volunteer staff.

READER (Volunteer)

Goals for this position: Read and help vote on submissions for the journal and chapbooks (for the following year), providing helpful feedback for all who submit.

Overall duties:

  • Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and the rest of the editorial team

  • Finish all tasks agreed upon within the given publication timeline

  • Sign up for reading opportunities for the journal (biannual), chapbook submissions (two rounds), and Vignette (dates below); tasks may include:

    • Choosing journal themes and voting on all submissions as received

    • Reading through and voting on all Vignette submissions

    • Joining round 1 or round 2 of chapbook submissions, reading all within the round and providing helpful feedback (I am currently working out what this will look like)

Fundraising Coordinator (Volunteer)

Goals for this position: Lead all fundraising efforts for Yellow Arrow Publishing, including fundraising campaigns, donor management, and grant opportunities.

Overall duties:

  • Research fundraising and grant opportunities and maintain a database

  • Manage donor list and correspond with potential donors

  • Develop and manage fundraising campaigns including writing social media content

  • Receive and execute on tasks from our Executive Director or Director of Grants, as needed

  • You may also (and are encouraged to) participate in the following activities:

    • Choosing journal theme and voting on all submissions received

    • Writing blogs for the Yellow Arrow website

    • Helping with research projects as they come up

    • Suggesting creative strategies related to marketing and social media initiatives for fundraising

We are also accepting general applications for individuals interested in joining our staff as readers or project-based volunteer (including helping at events).
