Another Poem About Depression

Claire Taylor

or perhaps this one is about healing

autumn arriving

bit by bit

the cool morning dancing

through the trees

while honeyed dawn spills

across your bare shoulders and our

crumpled bed sheets

the breeze

through the open window makes me shiver

as I recall the many times

you held my face

to yours —look at me look at me

but I was already gone

now

I put one foot to the carpeted floor

then the other

without effort

go downstairs to start the coffee

greet the day like it might hold something

I’m meant to see
