Yellow Arrow Vignette | BLAZE
Baltimore Women
Trinity Chapree
I was made out the mud,
delicately put together for hours.
Getting discarded like a weed,
when I know I’m a precious flower.
You don’t even know me.
See Mo’Nique and Jada raised me.
Now I have a head stronger than steel
The weight of this city sits on my back,
and I can fit it in any purse I carry.
From Edmondson to Erdman.
From Pigtown to Pratt.
You see . . .
We have an aura about us so enchanting,
five minutes of our conversation
would make you wanna stay with us.
With curves that’ll turn your head
cause there’s no other woman
who can carry a frame like us.
The first call when you need
someone who can get down on their knees
cause there ain’t no one who can pray like us.
My resilience turns a rusty past
into a diamond finish.
My uniqueness will turn heads
and have eyes gazing in awe.
And my strength will just be
the icing on the cake
to help you digest it all.
Trinity Chapree is a Baltimore (Maryland) native with a passion for words. She realized it after taking her first English class in undergraduate at Coppin State University, causing her to switch her major from business management to English. Trinity has a deep love for the arts and black culture, which she expresses throughout her work. This passion for words drove her to obtain her MFA in creative writing and publishing arts at the University of Baltimore. Trinity’s involvement in the program has caused her to appreciate publishing just as much as writing.
