Yellow Arrow Vignette | LUMINATE

Ley Lines

Madeline Graham

I always forget

about September,

but she remembers for me.

We sit on the hood of my car,

denting the metal as we

stare up at the night sky.

Do I know what

killed the dinosaurs?

I thought I did, but

maybe not.

She does, though,

and that’s more than enough.

She tells me she loves me

on a dark winding road,

and suddenly I wonder if

the same God that said

people can see

is watching over us now.

I put my hand on her leg

and feel the rotten sickness

retreat into the dark.

One day I’m gonna

make it up to her,

I think. But she doesn’t ask.

She just loves me.
