Lunar Eclipse

When I was small my father

pulled me out of bed to

watch the lunar eclipse.

“In ancient times,”

he told me,

“They used to think dragons were

eating the moon.”

I am telling you this

so you will understand

why I shake under your lips,

hungry and desperate like I was as a girl,

watching dragons eat the moon.

You kiss me on the sales floor and

leave your lip gloss on my face.

I lick it off.

I am not a dragon, and I have

never eaten the moon.

But I stick my tongue out anyway,

and I do imagine

this is what it tastes like.
